General questions
Q. Why is there no power?
A. The AC power cord is unplugged.
Q. Why does the remote control not work?
A. Check the following:
– the remote is facing the remote control sensor.
– the remote is too far away or there is too much light in the
room (bright direct sunlight).
– the remote is within 5 metres.
– there are no obstacles in the path of the DVD/VCR.
– the batteries are inserted correctly; the + and - polarities are
the right way around.
Q. Why is there no picture?
A. Check the unit is connected correctly.
Check that the TV is set to the correct AV (or equivalent)
channel on your TV.
Q. Why is there no sound?
A. Check the unit is connected correctly.
Check the input selector of the amplifier is set properly.
Check Audio Output settings.
Q. Why are the unit or remote keys not functioning?
A. Turn off the unit and unplug the AC power cord for several
minutes, then plug it back in again.
Q. There is no on-screen display
A. Select DISPLAY/CALL on your remote control.
VCR questions
Q. Why, when the VCR is switched on and connected with a
SCART LEAD can you not change the TV STATIONS on the
TV?
A. You may have pressed the VCR or DVD button on the remote
control. Turn off the VCR/DVD or try pressing the TV/VCR button
on your TV remote control and then select a different TV
channel on your TV.
Q. Why does the TV programme selected on the VCR not
appear on the TV screen?
A. Check the following:
– Is the aerial lead connected properly?
– The TV is set to your VCR channel.
Q. Why does the VCR not record?
A. Check the following:
– there is a tape in the VCR.
– the record Protection tab has been removed from the video tape.
Try placing a piece of adhesive tape over the protection tab
slot on the video tape.
– VCR is switched ON.
Q. Why is there no colour or there is 'snow' during
playback?
A. Check the following:
– are the VCR heads dirty. Clean the VCR heads.
– your TV/VCR might not be tuned correctly - retune the stations.
– is your video tape worn or damaged.
– the tracking adjustment is beyond the range of the Automatic
Tracking Circuit, try adjusting the tracking manually.
Q. Why does the VCR not record the TV station?
A. Your Stations have not been stored in the correct channel
positions on your VCR. Re-tune your VCR stations.
Q. Why can't I select timer record?
A. The time is not set correctly. Reset the time correctly.
DVD questions
A. Why does playback not start?
A. Check the following:
– no disc is inserted.
– the disc may be dirty. Clean the disc.
– does ‘Disc playback, unauthorised’ or a ‘no entry’ symbol appear
on screen? If so, please note that this unit only plays Region 2
discs. Insert correct region disc and try again.
– under certain conditions this product has the potential to lock up. If
this occurs the unit should be disconnected from the mains for 30
seconds. This will restore normal operation. This is common to
DVD players and not a fault.
Q. Why is the picture distorted during fast forward/ reverse
playback?
A. This is normal, stopping playback, search, slow-motion play,
repeat play will be distorted occasionally.
Check and clean the disc.
Some discs can not perform some of these functions.
Q. Why is there no 4:3/16:9 picture?
A. The TV ASPECT setting does not match your TV.
Q. Why does playback not start when a title is selected?
A. Check the PARENTAL LOCK setup.
Q. Why is the audio soundtrack and/or subtitle language not
changed when you play back a DVD?
A. Multilingual language is not recorded on the DVD disc.
Q. Why are there no subtitles?
A. Check the following:
– some discs have no subtitles.
– subtitles are cleared. Press SUB TITLE.
Q. Why can the angle not be changed?
A. Multi-angles are not recorded on the DVD disc.
