Fertilizer Troubleshooting

Problem

Cause

Solution

No fertilizer flow

Hydraulic driven pump (option) not engaged Engage pump.
Various possible pump issues

Refer to pump manual.

Tank and/or pump valves closed

Check that tank and pump valves are open 

(page 53)

Chain missing at one or more drive stages

Check all chains from ground drive to pump 

(page 57).

Tank plugged

Dilute or clean out any material clogging 

discharge port (page 68).

Strainer plugged

Close all valves. Inspect strainer. Clean 

screen as needed.

Switch to a larger screen size if materials 

clog strainer rapidly and large size orifices 

are in use.

Pump setting at or near zero

Recommended pump adjuster settings are 

in the range 2 to 10. See Material Rate 

manual.

Material run

Check tank level.

Material low

 loss of prime

Add material. When tank level is below 

pump inlet level, any air allowed in the line 

can cause the pump to lose prime.

Fertilizer transmission in low range when 

high range was intended

Change sprockets. See Material Rate

Orifice size too large

Choose alternate orifice plate size. See

Replace orifice plates. Discard worn plates.

Check fertilizer drive sprockets.

One or more orifice plates plugged

Clean and reinstall orifice plates. Check that 

material is correct consistency for orifice 

size.

Orifice plate sizes vary between rows

Check that all nozzles have the same size 

plates.

Strainer clogged

Close all valves. Inspect strainer. Clean 

screen as needed. Switch to a larger screen 

size if materials clog strainer rapidly and
