Adjustments
1. Loosen idler (7) and remove drive chain (8).
2. Remove retaining pins (9) from shafts and
rearrange driving and driven sprockets as
necessary.
3. Reroute drive chain over sprockets and idlers as
shown.
4. Move idler into chain so chain has 1/4 inch slack
in its longest span. Tighten idler and install lynch
pins.

Verify Seed Delivery
Although your seed monitoring system console will
report useful full pass results, cautious practice
includes manually checking the seed rate early in the
first pass before beginning planting operations.
The console can count most singulated seeds, but
may not accurately count the smallest seeds, such
as canola. It does not count individual volumetric
seeds.
The following is described in detail in the Material
Rate manual. The following is an overview of the
general process, which varies with the seed type and
planter meter drive configuration.
Before checking the rate, make sure the console is
configured with an accurate Ground Speed Constant.
At the start of each season, perform a
GROUND
SPEED CALIBRATION
over 400 ft (100 m), as
described in the console manual. When completed
and entered in the console, check the reported
implement speed against the tractor speedometer or
other reference.
The seed charts provided in the Material Rate
manual are based on cleaned and sized seed.
Extreme seed variations, foreign material, and tire
pressure can materially affect planting rate.
Checking the rate also provides a double-check on
your population calculations and drive configuration.
1. Adjust the planting depth to shallow on 3 rows
units. Using center and wing-end row units for
measurement provides a more accurate
assessment of overall planter performance. Pick
center units outside wheel tracks.
2. Use bungees or wire to tie-up the press wheel
assembly on the tested row units, so that the
seed is not covered.
3. Operate the planter for 17 feet 5 inches, plus
several feet for the press wheels to clear the end
of the sample distance.
4. Count the number of seeds in the test rows.
5. Multiply the total by 1000 to obtain an acre value.
6. If the populated is substantially different than
expected, check tire inflation and double-check
the sprocket configuration.
