12.3 INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL
To install the mower deck:
1. Drive the tractor unit up to the deck so that the
mower arm ball sockets align with the deck
mounting bracket holes.
2. Fasten each arm weldment to the bracket with the
trunnion pin.
3. Secure trunnion pin with the small clevis pin.
Secure the small clevis pin with the retaining ring.
4. Screw the height adjustment weldments onto the
rod ends. Tighten the lock nuts against the
weldments.
5. Put a film of grease onto the PTO shaft at the PTO
gearbox.
6. Slide the splined end of the U-joint assembly onto
the PTO shaft. Fasten with two hex bolts and lock
nuts. Alternate the direction of the bolts.
7. Lubricate mower deck.
8. Check mower level and adjust as required.
9. To remove deck, reverse the installation
procedure.
12.4 LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE
Lubrication
See Figure 57 for the locations of fittings and
lubrication intervals.
Every 8 hours of operation, lubricate the gauge wheels,
caster forks, idler pivot, and universal joint.
Every 25 hours of operation, apply motor oil to all pin
connections, pivot points, and areas where sliding
occurs.
NOTE: Maintenance free spindles do not need lubrica-
tion.
On non-maintenance free spindles, grease every 25
hours.
Clean fittings before attaching grease gun.
Apply Sten Mix Hi-Temp Grease or equivalent to the
lube fittings. Order P/N 000368 - Three Pack of 3 oz.
cartridges, or P/N 00036700 - 10 pack of 14 oz. tubes.
If using Sten Mix Hi-Temp Grease for the first time, all
components should be thoroughly cleaned prior to
lubricating.
Add grease until it appears at the ends of bearings.
NOTE: Grease the spindles until grease comes out of
the grease relief fitting.
Gearbox Oil
Once a year or every 200 hours of operation, check the
level of the gearbox oil
Check the level by removing the check plug. If no oil
runs from the plug, add SAE 90 oil.
To add oil:
1. Remove the fill plug and add oil until it runs out of
the check plug.
2. Replace both plugs.
12.5 HEIGHT OF CUT ADJUSTMENT
Each cutting height position will raise or lower the
cutting height by 1/2" (1.27 cm). The lowest cutting
height position is 1.5" (3.8 cm) and the highest cutting
height position is 4-1/2" (11.4 cm).
To adjust the cutting height of the mower:
1. Lift mower deck to the fully raised position.
2. On caster fork weldments, remove the retaining
rings and clevis pins, then adjust the spacers to
achieve the desired height (Figure 58).
3. Lower deck until the front caster wheels are within
a few inches of the ground and then raise the rear
of the deck.
4. On one height adjustment weldment, remove the
retaining ring from the clevis pin and remove the
clevis pin.
5. Insert clevis pin through the height adjustment
spacer and into a weldment hole that will achieve
