A complete list of all ASCII characters is applied in the annex A. Two important characters
are
LF
(Line Feed) and
CR
(Carriage Return). They have the following values:

Unicode Format Files
Unicode is a coding standard that includes about 100,000 characters from all important
character sets (from different cultures) and some control characters.
For instance there are Latin, Arabic, and Chinese characters. For the coding the format
UTF16
is used. That is a coding that uses two bytes (one word) for one character.
Because a file handles the date in bytes, these two bytes of one character have to be
stored in a defined order. That is called the
byte order
.
There are two possibilities: In the
big endian
order the high byte (bits 8 – 15) is coming
first, then the low byte (bits 0 – 7). In the
little endian
order the low byte (bits 0 – 7) is
coming first, followed by the high byte.
For instance if the value
0x1234 is stored in the file at the beginning (address 0) it looks
as follows:
