Check the Boom
Wear Pads
Maintaining the boom wear pads in good condition
is essential to safe machine operation. Wear pads
are placed on boom tube surfaces to provide a low
friction, replaceable wear pad between moving
parts. Improperly shimmed wear pads or continued
use of worn out wear pads may result in
component damage and unsafe operating
conditions.
If the wear pads are not worn
below specification but are still
within tolerence, see Repair
Procedure 4-2,
How to Shim the
Primary Boom.
1 Start the engine from the ground controls.
2 Raise the end of the primary boom to a
comfortable working height (chest high), then
extend the boom 1 foot (30 cm).
3 Measure each wear pad. Replace the wear pad
if it is less than

inch. If the wear pad is not
less than
9
/
16
inch, shim as necessary to obtain
zero clearance and zero drag.
4 Extend and retract the primary boom through
the entire range of motion to check for tight
spots that may cause binding or scraping of the
boom.
Always maintain squareness
between the outer and inner
boom tubes.
