Telligence Patient-Staff Communication System Operation Manual
Overview
Depending on how the Telligence System has been configured at
your facility, any nurse call — whether initiated at a patient or
staff/duty station, at a peripheral nurse call station, or even at a
staff console or annunciator — can be transmitted to the facility‘s
wireless phones and/or pagers. You can respond to paged
messages and use their wireless phones to answer calls from and
make calls to Telligence patient stations, Smart Staff/Duty Stations,
staff consoles and annunciators.
Note:
Patients and staff cannot make “outside“ calls from patient
stations, Smart Staff/Duty Stations, staff consoles or annunciators.
That is, these Telligence devices cannot be used to call home or to
call any number that is not a facility number.
Usually wireless phone systems that permit staff to answer nurse
calls also let them decline calls when unable to answer them. These
calls will still appear at staff consoles and annunciators, and may be
routed to other caregivers, if your system is set up to do so.
If you hear a busy tone when answering a nurse call, it means that
the audio path is already in use. At this point, it may be faster for you
to go directly to the room where the call originated, just as you
would if you received a pager message. Otherwise, it may be
possible for you to wait for the call to ring again.
When you answer a call from a patient station using a wireless
phone, the nurse call is canceled from the Telligence System if it is a
normal priority call. For all other nurse call priorities, you must go to
the patient‘s room and press the station‘s Cancel button (or a linked
Cancel button in the room) to cancel the call.
Note:
Your facility may want to avoid canceling normal priority
nurse calls from wireless phones altogether, because doing so voids
the Telligence System‘s UL Listing. As a result, the system installer
may have configured patient stations‘ patient-initiated calls — from
smart pillow speakers, call cords and electronic bed buttons — to
have priorities of patient priority or patient emergency, instead of
patient normal priorities.
Caution:
The Telligence System's UL Listing may be voided if normal
priority calls are canceled by staff members using wireless
telephones. Normal priority calls should be canceled only at staff
consoles or annunciators, or at the patient room.
