WARNING – Risk of Burns!
Even after
operation, hot steam and hot water could
escape from the group head, hot water out-
let, or steam wand. Do not hold your hands
or any delicate object near the group head,
steam wand or hot water outlet.
Hot steam and hot water under pressure
could escape even shortly after shut-off. This
holds especially for the steam wand, becau-
se the automatic purging function will give
off steam pulses shortly after use. Children
must always be supervised when the Espres-
so Machine is in their reach.
MAKING THE ESPRESSO MACHINE
READY FOR OPERATION
1. Ensure that the water tank and bean hop-
per are filled and are assembled correct-
ly. See: ›Preparations for Grinding Ope-
ration‹. Check whether the drip tray is
installed correctly too.
Note:
We DO NOT recommend the use of high-
ly filtered, de-mineralized or distilled water
as this may affect the taste of the coffee
and how the Espresso Machine is designed
to function. Use clear tap water or low-
mineral table water.
2. Connect the Espresso Machine to the
power supply and press the POWER but-
ton to switch on.
3. Wait until the boilers reach the pre-
selected operating temperature.
After approximately 5 minutes, the Espresso
Machine will reach the operating tempera-
ture and all 6 buttons will illuminate. The
Espresso Machine is now in standby mode,
ready for the next step.
Note:
While heating the boilers, the 1 CUP button,
2 CUP button, HOT WATER button, steam
function, and cleaning cycle are inactive.
PRE-HEATING
Heating your Cup or Glass
WARNING:
Only use heat-resistant cups
and glasses. Other materials could burst or
melt. This way, splinters or other particles
could get into your coffee, causing severe
injuries.
A warm cup will help maintain the coffee’s
optimal temperature.
1. Pre-heat your cup by rinsing with hot
water from the hot water outlet. For this,
switch hot water on and off by pressing
the HOT WATER button. Thereafter, place
the cup on the cup warming plate on top
of the appliance.
Heating the Portafilter
and Filter Basket
A cold portafilter and filter basket can reduce
the extraction temperature, thus significantly
affecting the quality of your espresso. Always
ensure the portafilter and filter basket are
pre-heated with hot water from the hot water
outlet before initial use. Thereafter, carefully
dry these parts.
2. Switch hot water on and off by pressing
the HOT WATER button, to rinse portafil-
ter and filter basket with hot water.
3. Thereafter, thoroughly wipe dry the filter
basket and portafilter.
Note:
Always wipe the filter basket and portafil-
ter dry before dosing with ground coffee
as moisture can cause ‘channelling’ where
water by-passes the ground coffee during
extraction.
