Training your pet
The secret behind good animal control is training. The animal learns that
being too close to the fence is a bad thing to do and therefore, will stay
away.
This is especially true with pets. Your animal must learn that you do not
want it to go near the fence. You are the boss.
Therefore, follow these 3 simple steps to training your pet.
As soon as your fence is built, switch it on. Do not allow your pet to
investigate the fence without feeling the pulse from the fence.
Stay in the garden with your pet when you first switch on the fence.
When it gets a shock shout "no". Your voice, together with the pulse
from the fence will tell your pet it's been bad in touching the fence.
It is important that your pet feels a pulse from the fence soon after
it has been erected in order to learn to respect its boundaries.
Pest control
The pest that is frequenting your garden must learn quickly that it is not
welcome. Therefore switch the fence on as soon as you walk away from
it - even if you have not finished constructing it. The pest will be curious
of the new barrier and will investigate. It is important therefore that the
pest gets a 'slap' from the fence on its first encounter.
