9 MODIFIERS
MANUAL CONTROLLERS
The five Manual Controllers are virtual knobs with no function other than to serve as modifier sources. A
Manual controller makes it possible, for instance, to create a “super control” where one knob operates multi-
ple sound functions at the same time. For example, you might assign delay mix, reverb time and chorus depth
parameters — all at the same time — to the “Manual 1” modifier source. Now, when you adjust Manual 1, all of
the above parameters will change simultaneously as desired.
Another good use for Manual Controllers is to simulate an expression pedal when you do not have one handy.
Change the value of a Manual Knob in the Controllers menu, or, for a more accessible option, place on one of
the Performance Control pages (see
).
TUTORIAL: MANUAL CONTROLLERS
In this tutorial, we will set up a Manual Controller to adjust the Feedback and Mix of a Delay block.
1. Load the factory preset “#022 Super Verb” and turn on the Delay block.
2. The first step in using a Manual Controller is to assign it as a Modifier Source to the parameter of your
choice. Enter the Layout grid of the preset, navigate to the Delay block, and press
EDIT
.
3. Use the
PAGE
buttons to locate the Config page of the Delay block.

to the Feedback parameter and notice the open yellow modifier “ring” beneath the knob.
5. With the Feedback parameter highlighted, press
ENTER
to display the Modifier menu.
6. On the Source 1 page, select Manual 1.
7. Page right twice to the Modify page. Set Min to 0% and the Max to 50%.
8. Press EXIT to return to the Delay menu. Notice that the open modifier symbol is now a solid yellow dot.

to display the Modifier menu.
10. On the Source page, select Manual 1.
11. Page right to the Modify page. Set Min to 5% and the Max to 75%
12. Now let’s try the Manual Controller. Press
HOME
to show the home page.
13. Press the CONTROLLERS button (Push-knob C).
14. Use the
PAGE
buttons to locate the Manual page of the Controllers menu.
15. Turn knob A to adjust Manual 1 and listen to your delay settings change. As the knob approaches 100%, the
Delay mix increases (louder echoes) and the Feedback increases (more repeats).
16. Press
STORE, ENTER, ENTER
to save your work. Not only will all of the modifier settings be saved, but the
position of the Manual knob as well.
17. EXTRA CREDIT! Use Axe-Edit to place your Manual 1 knob on one of the PERFORMANCE CONTROL pages and
give it the name “Delay/Mix+FB” (See
“Performance Control Pages” on p. 96
for more)
