LP Gas (Liquid Propane) (Cont’d)
The liquid propane (LP) gas system in your recreational vehicle furnishes the fuel for cooking, heating
and hot water. LP gas can also be used as an alternate energy source for refrigeration. It is a clean,
efficient and safe form of energy when proper handling and safety precautions are observed.
The gas is stored with extreme pressure in the tank, with space in the tank to allow for expansion into
vapor. This vapor is reduced in pressure by passing through a regulator. This reduction in pressure is a
two-step process which assures consistent pressure for use, regardless of outside temperatures, weather or
altitude.
LP gas is under high pressure in the tank. The purpose of the regulator is to reduce the pressure inside the
tank to allow for safe use. A two-stage automatic regulator, most commonly used on dual tanks, offers the
convenience of instant, automatic changeover from the empty to the full tank. You will notice a small
directional arrow that is molded into the plastic knob. When the arrow is pointing to a tank and the
indicator is green like the above photo, the tank has LP in it and is supplying LP to the Aviator. If the tank
that the arrow was pointing to was empty, the indicator would show red. If the other tank had LP in it, the
regulator would change over automatically and use the LP in that tank, even with the arrow pointing to
the empty tank. If your regulator shows red on the side with the arrow, it means that tank is emptied and
the tank needs to be filled.
Consult your Dealer on the proper way to disconnect from your LP
system or change your LP Tanks.
DO NOT
adjust or repair the regulator. It is preset at the factory to certain specifications and should only
be adjusted by a qualified propane service technician. To avoid potential problems, have your LP gas
system checked by an authorized service center at least once a year and after each extended trip.
NEVER
test for a leak by lighting a match or having an open flame where
you suspect a leak.
‘WARNING’ INDICATES A HAZARDOUS SITUATION WHICH, IF NOT AVOIDED, COULD
RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.
