Section 5
PLUMBING
When storing your Aviator through periods of freezing weather, in an unheated environment, it will be
necessary to winterize the water system. Damage to water system components will result if the proper
winterization steps are not taken.
NOTE
: Before using the compressed air method, you will need a special adapter known as a
This plug allows compressed air to be delivered through the city water fill. This small, inexpensive
adapter is available at most RV supply stores.
NEVER USE AUTOMOTIVE ANTIFREEZE IN YOUR FRESH WATER SYSTEM.
AUTOMOTIVE ANTIFREEZE IS TOXIC AND NOT FOR USE IN POTABLE (DRINKABLE)
WATER SYSTEMS.
Winterizing with Compressed Air
Purchase 2 gallons of RV non-toxic antifreeze.
1.
Drain the fresh water tank and all waste water holding tanks. Note: Black tank needs to be
emptied into an approved black tank dump station.
DO NOT
empty the black tank onto the
ground.
2.
Turn off water heater and water pump switch. Turn Water Heater bypass valve, located in the
exterior convenience center to the ‘bypass’ position.
3.
Drain water heater by removing the anode rod and opening the pressure relief valve and open all
faucets, low point drains, and hold toilet flushing mechanism open until all water is done
draining.
4.
Remove the water filter from the canister, discard filter and re-install canister.
(You will need to purchase a new filter and install it when de-winterizing your unit).
5.
Open all faucets, including shower head sprayer, (if applicable), toilet flushing device, low point
drains and any other water lines that are closed.
6.
Turn on the water pump for at least 30 seconds to clear any water from the lines. Turn pump off.
7.
Connect an air hose with an adapter blow out plug (purchased separately) to the city water fill
inlet connection.
8.
Set the pressure to no greater than 30 psi and blow out the water lines until no water can be seen
coming out of the fixtures and lines.
9.
Pour RV Antifreeze into drains, p-traps, toilet, and holding tanks. This includes the fresh water
tank.
DO NOT PUT RV ANTIFREEZE INTO THE WATER HEAT TANK.
NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE WATER HEATER OR USE THE PLUMBING
SYSTEM AFTER THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN WINTERIZED. DEWINTERIZE, FLUSH
AND SANITIZE THE WATER SYSTEM PRIOR TO USE.
