2.7 HyperConverter-1280R Rackmount installation
The Rackmount HyperConverter-1280 is intended for use in the permanently mounted situation of the
19 inch rack. The Rackmount HyperConverter incorporates an ISA board model HyperConverter as
its integral component. There is an additional signal conditioning board in the Rackmount
HyperConverter that requires slightly different treatment in installation than does the desktop version of
the HyperConverter.
The exact procedure for installing a Rackmount HyperConverter depends on the platform in use, the
connector configuration, the synchronization configuration and the requirement for local viewing of the
computer's output on a computer monitor. The Rackmount HyperConverter is often used in
circumstances where its input computer video is provided by a signal splitter (often referred to as a
Distribution Amplifier). Such a device splits the Computer Video signal for viewing on both a
Computer Monitor and an additional processing device (in this case the HyperConverter). In cases
where local viewing is required, without the addition of a Distribution Amplifier, the user must "pass
through" the Rackmount HyperConverter. The Rackmount HyperConverter has been designed to
accommodate this process.
Computer video is generated in one of three ways:
5 wire - Separate signals for Red, Green, Blue, Horizontal Sync and Vertical Sync.
4 wire - Separate signals for Red, Green and Blue. Horizontal and
Vertical Sync are combined into a single signal and delivered on a separate wire.
3 wire - Separate signals for Red, Green and Blue. Horizontal and Vertical Sync are combined into a
single signal. The composite H and V signals is embedded into one or more of the Red, Green or Blue
active video signal. By industry tradition, it is expected to be found on the Green signal.
As a general rule of thumb, the following assumptions can be made about synchronization
configuration for the following popular computers:
