9.3. Changing a propeller:

A

Propellers should be changed when they are damaged, following the maintenance schedule. Damage is
typically caused by large items entering the cage, but dust and small particles will also abrade the propellers in
the long term.

The clearance between the tip of the propeller and the duct is extremely important for the efﬁciency and ﬂight
time of the drone. Propellers must be replaced if they are worn down to the white markers.

8 mm hex socket.

●

1.4 Nm ﬁxed torque driver.

Here is the step by step procedure:

●

Identify the propeller in need of replacement (following the previous instructions).

●

Find the right propeller/propellers in the drone’s box (please note that numbers and letters will be
printed on the propellers). ELIOS 3 is shipped with a dynamometric screwdriver, which is pre-set to the
correct torque of 1.4Nm. Using this tool eliminates the risk of overtightening the motor nuts and
damaging the threaded motor shafts.

●

Remove the damaged propeller/propellers with the appropriate tool (i.e., the provided 8mm hex
socket).

●

Change the propeller/propellers, making sure to place the letter against the structure, as per the
related instructional video (link below).

●

Tighten the propeller to the motor shaft with the 1.4N.m torque driver and hex socket. You must always
use a new nut when replacing a propeller.

●

Before each mission, you should check your propellers and you should also check that the nuts are
correctly tightened with the 1.4 Nm torque driver.

Note: As a general best practice for propeller maintenance, we encourage users to replace all propellers at the
same time. Doing so ensures proper pacing for the maintenance schedule for your propellers. Replacing a
single or a few propellers will make it difﬁcult or impossible to keep track of which ones need to be changed
and which ones do not.
