Troubleshooting
Important: It is essential that all operator safety mechanisms be connected
and in proper condition prior to use.
When a problem occurs, do not overlook the simple causes. For example: starting problems could be caused by
an empty fuel tank.
The following table lists some of the common cause of trouble. Do not attempt to service or repair major items
or any items that call for special timing of adjustments procedures (such as valves, governor, etc.). Have this
work done by your First Products Dealer service technician.
NOTE : When disconnecting electrical connectors DO NOT pull on the wires to separate the connectors.
Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action
Starter does not crank 1. Electric clutch turned on. 1. Turn clutch off.
2. Battery does not have full charge.
3. Electrical connections are corroded,
loose, or faulty.
2. Charge battery.
3. Check the electrical connections
for good contact. Clean
connector terminals thoroughly
with electrical contact cleaner,
apply dielectric grease and
reconnect.
4. Fuse Blown. 4. Replace the blown fuse.
5. Relay or switch is defective. 5. Contact an Authorized Service
Dealer.
Engine will not start, starts
hard, or fails to keep
running.
1. Fuel tank is empty 1. Fill the fuel tank.
2. Oil level in the crankcase is low. 2. Add oil to crankcase.
3. Throttle and choke are not in the
correct position. 3. Be sure the throttle control is
midway between the “SLOW “
and “FAST” positions, and the
choke is in the “ON” position
for a cold engine of the “OFF”
position for a warm engine.
4. Dirt in fuel filter. 4. Replace the fuel filter.
5. Dirt, water, or stale fuel is in fuel
system. 5. Contact an Authorized Service
Dealer.
6. Air filter is dirty. 6. Clean or replace the air filter.
