The lubrication system is of the dry sump
type, with fi xed gear pumps on the right-
hand side of the crankcase. The engine
is equipped with three scavenge pumps
and a delivery pump. The oil pump unit is
coupled to the water pump (see
page 130
)
and is driven by the crankshaft by means of
a chain.
The oil tank with suction chamber is cast in
the gearbox and has a separator equipped
with cylindrical degassing chamber in the
upper part with centrifugal cyclone effect.
The separator is fi tted with an oil fi ller plug
at the end of the fi ller neck.
The device for oil gas and vapor
recirculation is of the closed circuit type.
In the event of engine malfunctioning with
an abnormal rise in pressure, the oil vapors
coming from the heads are conveyed to a
pipe connected to the blow-by system; from
here, a part condenses and fl ows into the oil
tank underneath. The remaining gases, are
aspirated through the connection pipes and
conveyed to the plenum chambers.
A dedicated pipe in the system releases the
pressure that accumulates in the oil tank.
