Operation
Important:
Do Not engage the starter for
more than 5 seconds at a time. If the engine
fails to start, allow a 60 second cool-down
period between attempts. Failure to follow
these instructions can burn out the starter
motor.
5. Once the engine starts, gradually push down the
choke control (if applicable) as the engine warms.
If the engine stalls or hesitates, slightly pull the
control up for a few seconds.
Operating the Parking Brake
(SmartPark
™ )
The parking brake is activated electronically.
Engage the parking brake by one of the following
actions:
• Pressing the SmartPark ™ switch to the “ON”
position (Figure 4).
• The parking brake engages automatically when
the operator leaves the seat and the traction
control pedal is in the neutral position.
• The parking brake automatically engages 5 to 6
seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the
“OFF” position (if not already engaged).
Disengage the parking brake by one of the following
actions:
• Tap the traction-control pedal forward or reverse.
• Pressing the brake switch to the “OFF” position
(Figure 4).
Operating the Blades
The blade control switch, represented by a power
take-off (PTO) symbol, engages and disengages
power to the mower blades. This switch controls
power to any attachments that draw power from the
engine, including the mower deck and cutting blades.
Engaging the Blades
1. Release the traction-control pedal to place the
machine in neutral.
2. Move the throttle midway between the “SLOW”
and “FAST” positions.
Note:
Always engage the blades with the throttle
in the midway position.
3. Pull out on the blade control switch, to the “ON”
position, to engage the blades.

4. Move throttle to full forward position before
mowing.
Disengaging the Blades
Set the throttle to the midway position. Push the
blade control switch to “OFF” to disengage the
blades (Figure 10).
Stopping the Engine
1. Bring the unit to a full stop.
2. Disengage the blades.
3. Release the traction-control pedal to place the
machine in neutral and engage the parking brake.
4. Adjust the throttle.
• For All Engines except Exmark: Place the
throttle midway between the “SLOW” and
“FAST” positions.
• For Exmark Engines: Place the throttle in the
“FAST” position.
5. Allow the engine to run for a minimum of 15
seconds, then turn the ignition switch to the
“OFF” position to stop the engine.
6. Remove the key to prevent children or other
unauthorized persons from starting engine.
