10.3 Data Input/Output

The I/O ports allow selection of data input/output direction in bit units using the P

IO[7:0] bits (P

_IO register).

The input/output direction of the port configured for a peripheral module is controlled by the peripheral module and
the bit setting in P

IO[7:0] is ignored.

Data input

To set an I/O port for input, set P

IO[7:0] to 0 (default). I/O ports set for input mode are placed in a high-

impedance state, and thus function as input ports. The port pin is pulled up when the pull-up resistor is enabled
using the P

_PU register.

In the input mode, the status of the input pin is read directly through P

IN[7:0] (P

_IN register), so the data is 1

when the pin status is a high (V

) level or 0 when the pin status is a low (V

) level.

Data output

To set an I/O port for output, set P

IO[7:0] to 1. I/O ports set for output function as output ports. When 1 is

written to P

OUT[7:0] (P

_OUT register), the port outputs a high (V

) level; when the data is 0, the port

outputs a low (V

) level. When the port is in output mode, the port pin is not pulled up even if the pull-up

resistor is enabled with the P

_PU register.
