3.1.1.3 Remedies for the Ink Low or Ink Out Error

Check for problems in the order listed below when the black or color
Ink Out light comes on or blinks, even though the ink cartridges have
been replaced with new ones.

NOTE: If you answer “Yes” to a question listed under “Problem,” take

the action described to the right under “Solution.” If “No,”
proceed to the next step.

The ink consumption counter keeps track of ink usage
by counting how many dots of ink are ejected during
printing and head cleaning. (Color and black ink are
tracked separately.) The counter is normally reset (its
value returned to zero) when the I/C replacement
sequence is performed. However, if the user attempts
to replace ink cartridges without following the correct
replacement procedure, the printer may stop printing
and display the Ink Out error even though plenty of ink
remains in the cartridges.

Install new ink cartridges correctly, and make sure the
user understands the proper replacement procedure.

Is the ink cartridge
sensor actuator
working properly?

Move both actuators (right and left) manually and
check that they push against the micro switches. Also
check that the actuators return to their normal position
when released, as shown in the figure below.
