Preparing for VLAN Configuration
A little forethought and planning is essential to a good VLAN implementation. Before attempting
to configure a single switch for VLAN operation, consider the following:
•
How many VLANs will be required?
•
What stations will belong to them?
•
What ports are connected to those stations?
•
What ports will be configured as GARP-aware ports?
•
Will Per VLAN Spanning Tree or Quick Convergence Spanning Tree be used?
It may also be helpful to sketch out a diagram of your VLAN strategy. The examples provided
starting with
Section 13.11
may be useful for a depiction of the planning process.
Section 13.10
provides a quick walkthrough on how to use the screens to configure the switch for VLANs.
