a. Draining – Main Transmission
A magnetic chip detector is located on the bottom of the
transmission on the left aft corner. The unit itself consists
of two parts, a quick removable chip detector, and a self-
sealing base fitting (refer to para. 8-5, item 11 for
additional information).
The following procedures are to be used in draining the
transmission.
(1) Remove and inspect the magnetic chip detector for
evidence of metal - do not disconnect the wire lead;
tie back out of the way.
(2) Install a trough-type device under the base fitting
of the chip detector, outward to the left side of the
aircraft.
(3) Place a suitable container under the trough to
catch the oil.
(4) Remove the base fitting, allowing oil to drain.
NOTE
Allow ample time for complete drainage.
(5) Discard and replace base fitting crush washer.
