Function check
#
Warning!
Check that all connections have been made correctly. Especially check that all hose connections are
firmly attached, so that no leakages occur.
In case of a leakage at the diaphragm pump sample can leak with a pressure up to 16 bar (232 psi)
and endanger people and equipment. The pump would suck air instead of sample.

Switch-on
6.2.1
Initial start-up
Loosen the filtrate hose (if connected) from the pressure side of the pump and insert the supplied,
approx. 50 cm (1.6 ft) long hose piece in its place. The end of this hose piece should be hung up
such that the sample being delivered can not run into the cabinet or cause any other damage. Have
a 100 ml (3.4 fl.oz.) measuring cup ready, so that you can check the filtrate quantity later.
6.2.2
Power switch
The upper flip switch is used to switch on the housing heater and the heater cables in the filtrate
line (see "Display and operating elements"), the middle flip switch for switching on the controller.
The latter is used to activate the timer and the CAT430 starts operation with the cycles configured
at the factory (initial start-up) or with your individual settings.
The lower flip switch is used to set the pump to evacuate when the timer is switched on (continuous
operation of the pump).
!
Note!
• To start the entire system immediately, the "Power" switch and the "Control" switch must be
activated.
If you are starting the machine in frosty conditions, only switch "Power" on first. Wait approx.
30 mins before starting the controller and thereby the pumping operation. This time is needed to
bring the filtrate hoses and the pump box above 0 °C (32 °F).
• Continuous operation of the pump (lower flip switch) is necessary above all for degassing the filter
elements and the filtrate hoses. Switch the continuous operation on for approx. 10-15 minutes
during commissioning. The vacuum at the manometer must not be larger than 0.4 bar (6 psi).
Otherwise, stop the continuous operation and switch it on again when there are many air bubbles
in the filtrate hose.
1.
Switch the heater and the controller on.
2.
Switch the pump to degas.
#
Warning!
Sample is leaking out of the hose piece. Prevent persons or equipment from being affected.
Be sure to set the "Evacuate" switch back to "0" after commissioning. Otherwise, the pump will be
destroyed.
