Indication / operating
condition
Possible root cause
Remedy
No mains connection
Check mains switch, plugs and socket.
No input signal
Check input connections, exchange RCA connector,
check source signal (is a different audio component
fed by the same source playing correctly?)
No signal
Subwoofer is switched off via the re-
mote control
Switch on subwoofer by means of the remote con-
trol.
No signal
(digital input)
A phone plug is plugged into the AUX
input
The optical input can only be used if no plug is
plugged into the AUX input. Pull out the plug out of
the AUX input.
Level too low
(analogue input)
Source (pre amplifier, CD-player) level
too low
Check volume level at the source; increase source
level.
Level too low
(digital input)
Volume adjustment active in the digital
domain of the source
Increase volume of the source’s digital output.
Level is too low, even with
Volume max.
Source (mobile phone, mp3-player,
CD-player) has too low output level
Check and increase level adjustment at the source
device.
The volume within the room
is too high, even if volume
of the source is set to a low
level
Volume control of the subwoofer too
high
Turn down the volume of the subwoofer to a mini-
mum level; increase source’s level to around 50%,
now increase the level of the subwoofer until the
volume within the room has a convenient level.
Loud hum
Contact problems with RCA connector
(adapter for extensions)
Check all connections; reduce the level at ELAC sub
to -30dB; the outer rings of the RCA plugs may have
to be readjusted.
Soft hum (during pauses)
Hum of source, ground loop with RCA
multi-connections
Check of ELAC sub for inherent hum: switch off
subwoofer, disconnect all inputs, switch on again,
normal settings.
Now, with the ear near the speaker there may be a
soft hum, but none at the listening place.
Soft noise
Source produces noise
Check of ELAC sub for inherent noise: switch off
subwoofer, disconnect all inputs, switch on again,
normal settings.
Now, with the ear near the speaker there may be a
soft noise, but none at the listening place.
Playback not loud enough
(USB input)
Volume within control panel adjusted
too low
There are several menus in which the output volume
of a USB soundcard can be adjusted (control
panel/audio devices, soundcard driver, equalizer in
iTunes® or Winamp etc.). Please make sure to ad-
just an adequate level in all of these.
No playback
(USB input)
Wrong output device selected
Choose the correct audio output device within the
control panel (external USB output device).
