9 INPUT SOCKET FOR EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY
Please connect here the (low voltage) plug from the included desktop switch
mode power supply.
It provides the 16 Volts necessary for the ELAC complete active subwoofer.
Do not use any other external power supply than the original ELAC type.
10 / 11 LED
The infrared receiver (10) receives the commands which are transmitted by the
remote control. The indicator LED (11) signalizes the operating mode: During
starting up, the LED lights-up in bright white. Afterwards it glows in darker white
(if switch is turned to “DAY”) or goes off (if switch is turned to “NIGHT”). If the
remote control is used for changing the operating mode or parameters, the LED
blinks. Different functions result in different blinking sequences (see chapter 26,
lowest box).
12 CONNECTING THE POWER SUPPLY
At the end of the above mentioned installations, please plug-in the mains plug
into the power supply’s receptacle.
Caution
:
The other end of the mains cable should be connected at last – after all other
installations – to the mains socket.
Please note that the power supply will also draw a small current out of the mains, even if the subwoofer
is turned off.
If you would like to reduce the power consumption to zero, the power supply has to be discon-
nected from the mains (or may be switched off by a switchable multiple socket).
13 POLARITY
Under some circumstances it is clever to invert the polarity of both satellite speakers in relation to the
subwoofer (turning the phase by 180°). This can be necessary under special room conditions and/or
relative positions of subwoofer and satellites. If you feel the bass is too weak (especially the higher or
“Kick” bass), or it seems muddy and not controlled, you should once try polarity inversion if it helps.
The phase will be turned by 180° by connecting BOTH satellite speakers knowingly with wrong polarity.
The positive cable pole (“+”) is connected to the negative output clamp (“-“) and vice versa. This must
be done with BOTH channels.
Compare this to the standard connection. The version that sounds more full is the proper one, possibly
allowing a slight reduction of subwoofer level (or crossover frequency) and thereby improving the qual-
ity.
