An IPv6 address must be formatted according to RFC 2373 “IPv6

Addressing Architecture,” using 8 colon-separated 16-bit hexadecimal

values. One double colon may be used to indicate the appropriate

number of zeros required to fill the undefined fields.

◆

When you enter the ping command, five ICMP packets are transmitted,

and the sequence number and round-trip time are displayed upon

reception of a reply.

◆

The following are some results of the ping command:

■

Normal response

- The normal response occurs in one to ten

seconds, depending on network traffic.

■

Destination does not respond

- If the host does not respond, a

“timeout” appears in ten seconds.

■

Destination unreachable

- The gateway for this destination indicates

that the destination is unreachable.

■

Network or host unreachable

- The gateway found no corresponding

entry in the route table.
