COOLING SYSTEM CLEANING
At least once a year, or more often under adverse condi-
tions) the cooling system should be cleaned. Cleaning
will assure an adequate supply of air to the cooling fins.
Compressed air may be used for routine cooling system
maintenance (Ref. Fig. 17).

Operation in wet or damp weather or overly fresh cut
grass may result in a variety of debris accumulating and
adhering to the internal shroud and fins of the cooling
system.

This engine uses Spark Plug NGK BPR2ES with a gap
of .028" - .031" (.70 - .80 mm). Using a 13/16" spark plug
socket or wrench, remove the spark plug at 125 hours or
semi-annually and clean and re-gap. The spark plug
should be properly gapped (Ref. Fig. 18) and replaced in
the cylinder head, tighten to the specified torque.
Fig. 18 Gapping the Spark Plug
Fouled spark plugs are indicated by a wet, black appear-
ance. This could be caused by a dirty air filter element or
other restrictions in the air intake system. Incorrectly
adjusted valves, spark plug wires which are in poor con-
dition or poor quality fuel could also contribute to the
problem.
Use care not to over tighten the plug. Overtightening can
cause damage to the aluminum cylinder head threads.
