Fuel Emptying
•
Tools needed: 5/8 inch wrench
•
Parts needed: a fuel container to be placed under the aircraft.
•
Type of maintenance: Line
•
Level of Certification needed:
-
Repairman (LS-M) or Mechanic (A&P) – both with the minimum level of certification to
perform heavy maintenance of SLSA in the U.S.
-
FAA approved Part 145 Repair station
•
Instructions:
1. Put the fuel container under the drain valve.
2. Open fuel tank cap to speed up draining.
3. Using the wrench, remove the drain valve.
4. Drain the fuel. If it is necessary to drain all fuel, push airplane tail down (almost to the
ground) to allow draining all of the unusable fuel.
5. Reinstall the drain valve.
6. Close fuel tank cap.
7. Repeat procedure for the opposite tank..

Task proper accomplishment check: Visually check, that the valve is closed and there is no
leakage of fuel through it.
USE THE SAME PRECAUTIONS AS DURING FUELING.
DO NOT SMOKE OR HAVE ANY OPEN FLAME DURING DRAINING!
