4.4.5
Setting the SSABR Time
When the
OK
Button is clicked from the Configuration Window, the SSABR’s internal clock will be
set to the same time and the PC’s internal clock. Before configuring the SSABR G2 unit, be sure that
the PC’s internal clock setting is accurate. There are many programs available for synchronizing the
PC’s clock to special “time servers” attached to the Internet. One such program is
AboutTime,
which
can be found at:
http://www.arachnoid.com/abouttime/index.html
AboutTime
will automatically connect to NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology) via the
Internet and synchronize the PC’s clock setting to NIST’s atomic clocks.
The CDU and the SSABR G2 unit have a special feature whereby the internal time zone setting (which is
also set by using the PC’s time zone) is used to display an accurate time zone-adjusted time for each of the
track recordings. This time displayed is independent of the time zone from which the unit contents are
downloaded. For example, if the unit was configured in New York City on Eastern Standard Time and a
track was recorded at 1:00 PM on June 23, 2001, then the unit was transported to Los Angeles for
downloading the contents, the time the track was recorded would be shown as 10:00 AM.
