Wheelchair occupant restraint system
The wheelchair restraint system must be se-
cured first. Once secure, the wheelchair occu-
pant must be secured with a corresponding
ISO 10542 compliant restraint system.
When doing so, the following must always be
ensured:
t
Fasten the shoulder and lap belt. Both of
these belts must be fastened quite
tightly, but not so tight as to cause
discomfort to the wheelchair user and
must not be twisted.
t
We strongly recommend using a head
restraint suitable for use in a vehicle
when transporting wheelchair users.
t
The top of the safety belt has to run
diagonally from the waist up the trunk to
the opposite shoulder/collarbone and the
lap belt must be at an angle of 30
degrees up to a max. of 75 degrees
relative to the horizontal, but never at an
angle greater than 75 degrees (fig. C).
t
Safety belts must not be placed over
wheelchair components such as armrests
and wheels or anything else that would
prevent them from resting close against
the body. (fig. D).
t
The restraint system must only comprise
products that are ISO 7176-19 / ISO 10542
or DIN 75078 certified and are correspond
-
ingly marked by their manufacturer.

WARNING
The geometry of the attachment
points (or of the fastening
system) must be adjusted with
just as much precision as the
wheelchair user’s safety belts to
ensure that a wheelchair user
seated in a wheelchair inside a
vehicle will be safety transport-
ed. Non-observance of these
requirements can put the
wheelchair user’s life at risk in
the event of an accident.
