The IP4700
High-Availability Features
A highly available system minimizes the impact of hardware and/or
software problems by continuing to operate despite the failure of
single components. System software and other applications can
eliminate downtime and make some problem recovery completely
transparent. For example, the IP4700 automatically transfers volumes
of data from a failed path to a working one, and provides continuous
access to your data despite a disk failure. The IP4700 achieves
additional high availability by including redundant hardware
components. The redundant hardware components for an IP4700 are
•
Two storage processors with equal memory — 1 Gbyte each
•
Two power supplies
•
Two link control cards in the IP4700 (and two in each DAE)
•
Ten disk drives
•
Two SPSs (standby power supplies) with fully charged batteries
The second storage processor provides continued access to the IP4700
and any connected DAEs if the first storage processor or link control
card fails.
Either autonomous, auto-ranging power supply can power a fully
configured IP4700 should one supply fail.
The disk drives are FC-AL compliant and support dual-port FC-AL
interconnects through the two link control cards and their cabling.
The SPSs provide power for checkpointing and flushing cache
memory to disk if primary power fails.
