Trusted Platform Module
Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a dedicated microprocessor designed to secure hardware by integrating cryptographic keys into
devices. A software can use a Trusted Platform Module to authenticate hardware devices. As each TPM chip has a unique and secret RSA
key burned in as it is produced, it can perform the platform authentication.
CAUTION:
Do not attempt to remove the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) from the system board. After the TPM is installed, it
is cryptographically bound to that specific system board. Any attempt to remove an installed TPM breaks the cryptographic
binding, and it cannot be re-installed or installed on another system board.
NOTE:
This is a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU). Removal and installation procedures must be performed only by Dell certified
service technicians.

Prerequisites
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple
repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team.
Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions
that are shipped with your product.
1
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
2
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.
Steps
1
Locate the TPM connector on the system board.
NOTE:
To locate the TPM connector on the system board, see the System board connectors section.
2
Align the edge connectors on the TPM with the slot on the TPM connector.
3
Insert the TPM into the TPM connector such that the plastic rivet aligns with the slot on the system board.
4
Press the plastic rivet until the rivet snaps into place.
