Repair / Overhaul/
Only original Cooper Crouse-Hinds / CEAG
parts shall be used for carrying out repairs
that concern the explosion protection.
Repairs that affect the explosion
protection may only be carried out by
Cooper Crouse-Hinds / CEAG or by a
qualified electrician in compliance with
the respective national regulations.
Before opening the enclosure ensure that
no potentially explosive atmosphere is
present.
Prior to opening the enclosure, it is
necessary to ensure that the voltage
supply has been isolated or to take
suitable protective measures.
Switch the „ON/OFF“ switch (light switch)
for the connected emergency lighting
luminaire to the „OFF“ position.
In the event of damage to the flameproof
encapsulation, replacement of these
components is mandatory. In case of
doubt, the respective apparatus shall be
sent to Cooper Crouse-Hinds / CEAG for
repair.
8.1. Replacing battery unit
Observe the information on the
adhesive labels on the battery unit (see
also Figs. 4 and 5).
Replace complete battery unit only.
Never replace, swap or transport/dispatch
individual batteries.
Before opening the enclosure, isolate the
mains voltage and switch the „ON/OFF“
switch (light switch) for the connected
emergency lighting luminaire to the
„OFF“ position.
Warning – short circuit: voltage at the
connection leads of the battery
To prepare the built-in charging electronics
for the changeover to the battery unit,
disconnect the brown sensor cable for at
least 5 seconds, terminal block X3, terminal
UBT. Then reconnect the sensor cable.
Disconnection of battery unit:
- First disconnect the connection lead at the
terminal block X1, terminal UB1.
- Plug the connection lead into the transport
holder provided (Fig. 6).
- Disconnect the remaining three connection
leads of the battery unit as described and
plug them into the transport holder.
- Undo and remove the screws of the battery
unit.
- Remove battery unit with mounting plate.
- Observe information on transporting
batteries in Chapter 9.1.
- Mounting in reverse order.
- Put into operation in accordance with
Chapter 6.5,.
Modifications or constructional changes
to apparatus are not permitted.

7.2 Maintenance of connection box
Check all seals to ensure that they are
effective and not damaged. Replace older or
damaged seals by new ones. Check
connection terminals and cable entries to
ensure that they fit securely.
Clean to remove any damp/condensation
and dirt.
7.3 Maintenance of battery
Clean the battery enclosure with a
dampened cloth – only use water without
additives.
7.3.1 The following shall be measured
and recorded every 6 months:
- Difference in charge voltage of both
batteries:
- Switch off mains voltage supply.
- Carry out a 5-minute function test.
-
Before opening the enclosure,
ensure that no potentially explosive
atmosphere is present.
- Measure the charge voltages of both
batteries at the terminal strip.
Battery 1: TerUB and UBT
Battery 2: Terminals –UB and UBT
If the difference in voltage between the two
voltages measured is more than 1.2 V, the
complete battery unit shall be replaced
(see Section 8.1).
- Surface temperature of the batteries:
In both cases measure the surface
temperature on the top at the centre of the
battery.
If the difference in temperature between the
two surface temperatures measured is
more than 5 K, the complete battery unit
shall be replaced.
The following shall be measured and
recorded on an annual basis:
- Insulation resistance (1 MOhm) in acc. with
DIN 60079-7 5.7.1.3.6
7.3.3. Visual inspection
- Battery contacts
- Battery mountings
- Ventilation
If, in the course of servicing, it is ascertained,
that repairs are necessary, section 8 of these
operating instructions shall be observed.
