GEAR ADJUSTMENT

GEAR ADJUSTEMENT
WARNING! If the gears are not properly adjusted, the chain can jump the cogs or
chainrings, resulting in a loss of drive and a risk to the rider! Once the gear adjust-
ment has been completed, it is essential that you test them in a safe environment.
FRONT MECH ADJUSTEMENT
- THE MECH STOP SCREWS:
Start off by checking the adjustment of the mech stop screws (fig.19),
(there are two).
The low range “L” mech stop screw, prevents the chain from dropping off
the small chainring towards the frame.
The high range “H” mech stop screw, prevents the chain from dropping off
the big chainring away from the frame.
The more you screw in either of these screws, the more you limit the range
of movement of the mech.

fig.20
To determine the correct adjustment, you need to respect the following
spacing:
- 0.5mm between the chain and the internal part of the chain guide when
the chain is on the small chainring (fig. 20).
- 0.5mm between the chain and the internal part of the chain guide when
the chain is on the big chainring.
Example : If the chain is positioned on the small chainring and it touches the
internal part of the front mech chainguide, unscrew the “L” screw until you
have the recommended spacing.
- CABLE TENSION:
The cable tension determines the precision of the gear changes. The
tension is modified by using the barrel adjuster situated on the shifter, at
the start of the cable (fig.21). The more you unscrew the barrel adjuster, the
more tension you add to the cable. The more you screw in the adjuster, the
more you reduce the cable tension.
