4. Checking the pulse inputs:
Every time a pulse is approved and counted in the FA-20’s internal pulse counter the big
Red LED will flash shortly. You can control that the FA-20’s pulse inputs work by delivering
a pulse directly to the pulse input. This is done by connecting and breaking the link
between the two terminals for pulse input (terminals 1 and 2 or 3 and 4). There shall be a
short flash on the big red LED, when the connection is broken. Remember that some
meters require that + and – are turned right, before the meter can deliver pulses.
5. Control of communication with serial meters:
If the main station has not blocked keystroke and readout from serial meters, then you can
test the communication between the FA-20 and serial meters by pushing the key. After a
keystroke the big green LED will flash once briefly per second by readout of potential
meters on port M1 and two times briefly per second by readout of potential meters on port
M2 and three times briefly per second by readout of potential meters on port MULTI. If the
meter for some reason is not correctly connected or for some reason cannot be read
correctly by the FA-20 – then the big red LED will flash for 3 seconds immediately after FA-
20 gives up receiving data on a given port. If the main station has programmed the FA-20
to make dial-back on keystroke, this will happen immediately after a potential meter on port
M2 has had an attempt on a readout.
