Chapter 4 Operating Procedures
Detects skewing that occurs in documents during
document transport and in scanned images and corrects
it.
Hint
The deskew function may not operate properly in the following
cases. In such cases, disable the deskew function. (Even in
cases other than the following, skewing in documents may not
be properly corrected and portions may be cut off in the scanned
image depending on the document.)
• When scanning documents with dark edges
• When scanning glossy or reflective documents
Background smoothing
Processes the scanned image so that the background is
smooth.
Bleed-through reduction
Eliminates bleed-through images, in which images on the
reverse side of a scanned document appear on the scanned
page, such as when scanning thin documents with text or
images on both sides.
IMPORTANT
Bleed-through reduction cannot be set when the [Text enhance]
mode is selected.
Hint
When using bleed-through reduction, adjust the bleed-through
reduction level to match the type of document.
Remove shadow
Removes shadows at the top and bottom of scanned images
automatically.
Erase Dot
Automatically remove isolated 3 × 3 dot black spots on
white backgrounds (or isolated 3 × 3 dot white spots on
black backgrounds).
Erase Notch
Remove protrusions (i.e., notches) in contours in scanned
images.
