Troubleshooting
If you have a problem with your camcorder, refer to this section. Consult a Canon Service Center if the problem
persists.
Power Source
The camcorder will not turn on or it turns off by itself.
- The battery pac k i s depleted. Replace or charge the battery pac k .
- Remove the battery pac k and reattach it correctly.
Cannot charge the battery pack.
- Ma k e s ure the camcorder i s off s o charging can s tart.
- The temperature of the battery pac k i s out s ide the charging range (approximately 0 – 40 °C). Remove the battery pac k ,
warm it or let it cool down, a s nece ss ary, and try charging it again.
- Charge the battery pac k in temperature s between approximately 0 °C and 40 °C.
- The battery pac k i s faulty. Replace the battery pac k .
- The camcorder cannot communicate with the battery pac k attached. Battery pac ks not recommended by Canon for
u s e with thi s camcorder cannot be charged u s ing thi s camcorder.
- If you are u s ing a battery pac k recommended by Canon for u s e with thi s camcorder, there may be a problem with the
camcorder or battery pac k . Con s ult a Canon S ervice Center.
A noise can be heard from the compact power adapter.
- A faint s ound can be heard while the compact power adapter i s connected to a power outlet. Thi s i s not a malfunction.
The battery pack is depleted extremely quickly even at normal temperatures.
- The battery may have reached the end of it s battery life. Buy a new battery pac k .
Recording
Pressing the REC button will not start recording.
- You cannot record while the camcorder i s writing previou s recording s to a card (while the ACCE SS indicator i s
illuminated in red). Wait until the camcorder ha s fini s hed.
- The card i s full. Delete s ome recording s (
A
91) or initialize the card (
A
32) to free s ome s pace.
- File number s have reached their maximum value. S et

The point where the REC button was pressed does not match the beginning/end of the recording.

The camcorder will not focus.
- The camcorder may not be able to focu s on certain s ubject s u s ing autofocu s . Focu s manually (

- When the AF mode i s s et to AF-boo s ted MF, s tart focu s ing manually until the AF frame change s to white (automatic
adju s tment range).
- The viewfinder i s not adju s ted. U s e the dioptric adju s tment lever to ma k e the proper adju s tment (

21).
- The len s i s dirty. Clean the len s with a s oft len s -cleaning cloth.
When a subject flits across in front of the lens, the image appears slightly bent.
- Thi s i s a phenomenon typical of CMO S image s en s or s . When a s ubject cro ss e s very quic k ly in front of the camcorder,
the image may s eem s lightly warped. Thi s i s not a malfunction.
Changing the operating mode between recording (

)/record standby (

) takes longer than usual.
- When the S D card contain s a large number of clip s , s ome operation s may ta k e longer than u s ual. S ave your

32). Alternatively, replace the card.
Clips or photos cannot be recorded properly.
