Getting off the wheelchair to move to another place may
be dangerous, if no assistance is available.
It requires:
•
remarkable physical strength
•
good coordination abilities
•
an anti-slip back surface (i.e. set the palms of your
hands on the seat surface)
•
much training
Be aware of all possible dangers.
Ask for assistance. Agree on how assistance should be
provided, and be aware that there may be unforeseen
hazards, i.e. stumbling; also make sure that the assistant
is acquainted with the kind of disability you suffer from.
When the wheelchair does not support any weight, for
example when you move from the wheelchair to the bed,
to the toilet or to the car, do not exert pressure on the
footrest.

Do not overload the wheelchair and do not use it for
carrying more than one person.
