Enter Selection:
If you want to change one of the listed network parameters, you can press the
corresponding number from “1” to “8”. You will be prompted for the new value
that you want to set the parameter to. Type in the new value and press [Enter] to
save the change, or press [Esc] or [Enter] without typing anything else to keep the
old value. In either case, you’ll be returned to the Network Parameter Menu.
Most of this menu’s options are self-explanatory. As for the others: The “User
Node ID” is a name up to 15 displayable characters long that you can give the
Card; it will appear in the login prompt, as well as in the security-log records (see
Section 4.3.3
). The default value is a null string (no name). The default setting of
“Ethernet Speed” is “Auto Negotiation”—the Card will negotiate the best available
data rate with your hub or router. Some devices don’t respond properly, though,
so you might have to force the data rate to “10 Half” (10 Mbps, half-duplex),
“10 Full” (10 Mbps, full duplex), “100 Half” (100 Mbps, half-duplex), or “100 Full”
(100 Mbps, full duplex). Only disable DHCP if the Card’s network parameters
must be entered manually rather than derived automatically (see
Chapter 3
). The
“Loghost IP Address” is the address of a remote host computer running a logging
program such as syslog, to which the Card can transmit a mirror of the event
records that normally appear in its Log Window (see
Section 4.3.3
). If you activate
this feature, you’ll be able to maintain a continuous record of Management Card
activity without needing to transfer the security log as described in
Section 4.4.7
.
