CHAPTER 3: Installation
3. Installation
3.1 Power Cable (and Cable Keeper) Connection
The Rackmount Remote Power Manager includes a cable keeper, which is
designed to prevent the power supply cable from being accidentally disconnected
from the power manager. The Rackmount Remote Power Manager (PS580A or
PS581A) uses a pivoting, clip-style cable keeper.
NOTE
The power manager’s master power switch must be on in order for the
unit to operate.
CAUTION
• Before attempting to install the power manager, review the warnings
and cautions listed on page 5.
• This device should be operated only with the type of power source
indicated on the instrument nameplate. If you are not sure of the type
of power service available, contact your local power company.
• Maintain reliable grounding of the power manager. Pay particular
attention to supply connections when connecting to power strips,
rather than directly to the branch circuit.
To install the power cables to the PS580A or PS581A, follow these steps:
1. First, make sure that the power manager’s power cable is disconnected from
the power supply.
2. Next, swing the pivoting cable keeper out of the way.
3. The Rackmount Remote Power Manager has one AC power input. Connect
the power cable (included) to the power inlet, then swing the cable keeper
back, making sure that it snaps into place on the power manager, and make
certain that the cable is secure.
4. Connect the cable to an appropriate power inlet. Each power manager
supports up to 15 amps (PS580A) or 10 amps (PS581A) maximum.
Once the power supply is connected to the PS580A or PS581A, set the master
power switch to the on position. The Power On LED will light, and the Sys Rdy
LED will flash. This indicates that the system is ready.
