2 Assembly and start-up
The devices have been developed for practical application in a harsh indus-
trial environment. The installation process is correspondingly simple.
On delivery, the device is ready for operation.
The following procedure has been proven to be successful for the assembly
of the device:

Unpacking and checking
X
Installing the media modules
X
Installing the SFP/XFP modules
X
Installing the power supply unit on the back of the device
X
Installing the plug-in power units in the M4-POWER power unit chassis
X
Setting up/mounting the device in the 19" rack
X
Grounding the device
X
Assembling the power unit chassis, connecting with the MACH 4000
X
Connecting the terminal block for signal contact
X
Connecting the supply voltage, starting up
X
Installing the data lines
2.1 Installing the device
2.1.1 Unpacking and checking
Check whether the contents of the package are complete (see page 51
"Scope of delivery") .
Check the individual parts for transport damage.
2.1.2 Installing the media modules
The switch has four inputs for connecting media modules.
The number of connectable network segments depends on the number of
media modules installed. If the full four media modules with 8 ports each are
connected, then in addition to the ports of the basic board, you get a further
32 ports for connecting network segments.
The modular design of the device allows you to easily expand the network
yourself by installing the desired media modules.
The media modules can be installed in the devices, or deinstalled, while the
network is operating (hot-swappable).
