3.8 The Exciter function
An additional special feature of the ULTRA-DYNE PRO is its integrated Exciter function. This permits the
addition of supplementary harmonics to your program material. The intensity of the effect can be set with the
Exciter Process parameter in the <TUBE> and <IN/OUT> menus. The Ratio of odd to even harmonics can be
set with the Odd/Even parameter.
The ExciterDrive parameter can be found in the band menus of the upper three bands. Use this parameter to
determine the share of each of the three upper bands to be processed by the Exciter. The result is a multiband
Exciter tailored precisely to your tastes, offering the most perfect audio enhancement possible.
3.8.1 Audio enhancement during the copying process
Even under the most favorable conditions, program material loses some of its presence, life and clarity with
each copy operation. These losses are especially conspicuous when copying cassettes with the noise reduc-
tion enabled.
The use of the ULTRA-DYNE PRO Exciter can help minimize or compensate for these copying losses. When
copying a high-quality, low-noise source, it's even possible to produce copies that sound better than the
original with careful application of the ULTRA-DYNE PRO.
3.8.2 Audio enhancement of instruments
The bandwidth of most electronic instruments is limited by their sampling rate. The ULTRA-DYNE PRO can
help synthesizers, samplers and drum machines sound more natural and transparent.
It can also be used to highlight subtleties in the sounds of acoustic instruments such as guitars without altering
the character of the instrument. The punch of percussion instruments such as toms, bass drums, etc. can be
enhanced for more power and impact.
3.8.3 Audio enhancement of PA systems
The ULTRA-DYNE PRO provides astonishing advantages for PAs and permanently installed systems for
background music:
1. For PA and background music applications, insert the ULTRA-DYNE PRO into the signal chain as you
would during recording and transmission work, directly upstream of your power amplifier. The Exciter en-
hances the intelligibility and range of your system, as well as giving the sound a pleasantly open and
transparent quality at low volumes. Problems related to fluctuating noise levels, the acoustic environment
(reflections) and speaker setup are reduced. For example, the high frequencies do not require adjustment
in discotheques or clubs as the room becomes fuller. This is not only beneficial for the ears of the
customers, but for the speaker system as well. In the case of bars and restaurants, background music
remains clearly audible without seeming loud or obtrusive.
2. The sound of any PA system can be enhanced with the ULTRA-DYNE PRO's Exciter. For example, vocals
and announcements become much more transparent and intelligible, and the separation of the instru-
ments is clearly enhanced. The bass also gains additional solidity.
The ULTRA-DYNE PRO Exciter increases the acoustic presence of your system, especially under adverse
conditions.
As the subjective loudness is increased, it's also possible to get satisfactory results with less amplifier power.
It's thus possible to achieve powerful, room-filling sound, even with a "weak" system, without major invest-
ments.
