Cleaning / Sanitizing
Procedure SSOP’s
It is the machine owner’s responsibility to follow
their state and local ice vending requirements;
however, Bag of Ice recommends the following:
Cleaning
All parts and surfaces of the ice & water dispensing
device should be maintained in clean condition by
the vended water operator. All dispensing devices
and dispensing parts should be cleaned and
sanitized each time the device is serviced; whereas,
all surfaces in contact with the vended ice shall be
maintained as a deposit free, visibly clean system. A
record of cleaning should be kept by the owner for
each ice dispensing device for a period of two years
and be available for inspection upon request. See

Sanitizing
Your ice and water vending machine and its
components should be sanitized every 6 months
or immediately if your water, ice maker or vending
machine is thought to be contaminated, if a boil
water notice is issued, if your machine is shut down
for the season or other reasons, or if a UV filter
malfunction occurs. A record of sanitizing should be
kept by the owner for each ice dispensing device for
a period of two years and be available for inspection
upon request.

occurs, Follow the Sanitizing instructions in the
enclosed Hoshizaki Service Manual, Cleaning and
Maintenance chapter pg. 67. Use the sanitizing
product required by your state (ie. two teaspoons
(100+ ppm) of household bleach in one gallon of
water or a rinse-less disinfecting product) Bag of Ice
storage bins must be cleaned and Sanitized at the
same time due to its configurations. Insure that your
ice storage bin is thoroughly rinsed and residue free
before vending.
Sanitizing Dispensing Devices, Dispensing
Parts and Surrounding Areas
– Sanitize
all Dispensing devices, dispensing parts and
surrounding areas with the sanitizing product
required by your state (ie. two teaspoons (100+
ppm) of household bleach in one gallon of water or
a rinse-less disinfecting product) using food-grade
utensils.
Ice & Water Test & Analysis
Proof of negative microbiological results of source
water and finished product (ice) must be available
prior to obtaining a permit and should be preformed
every 90 days after by an approved independent
laboratory. Two years of results to be kept on
premises inside your machine.
The acceptable methods of testing for maximum
contaminant levels for microbiological contaminants
in ice from ice dispensing devices are:
1. If a sample collected from a Bag of Ice vending
machine is determined to be unsatisfactory for
any reason (i.e. coliform positive or unsuitable
for analysis), the operator shall notify the health
department.
2. The ice maker, ice storage bin and all parts that
come in contact with ice & water must be cleaned,
sanitized and re-sampled immediately. Remove
water filters cartridges and replace with new
cartridges. Until the sample results are known
satisfactory the device shall remain out of service.
3. If after being cleaned and sanitized, the vended
ice is determined to be unsatisfactory, the machine
shall remain out of service until the source of the
contamination has been located and corrected and a
negative sample obtained.
