Eclipse Edge User Manual
• The
TCP/IP
connection option requires a LAN compatible IP address to be entered
on your Portal PC. This option would normally only be used at a NOC or other sites
that have a dedicated DHCP server, and it is important not have another terminal
operating as a DHCP server, to avoid potential for incompatible IP address
Setting Up A TCP/IP Ethernet Portal Connection
Note that:
• A TCP/IP connection can also be used to connect to an Edge or other Eclipse terminal
that has been configured as a DHCP server.
• DHCP can be retained on Edge terminals when co-located with other Eclipse
terminals that are TCP/IP or DHCP enabled for Portal connection. DHCP is also
retained for Edge 1+1 installations.
• Where two or more local devices are configured as DHCP servers all will respond to
the broadcast message provided by your Portal PC when first connected to the NMS
LAN, however only one of the servers will get to provide the IP address for your PC.
The Portal Start-up window will indicate all Eclipse radios on the NMS LAN, from
which point you can select the radio to log into.
NOTE:
Edge is default set for a DHCP connection. A valid Portal PC
connection is established automatically, providing your PC is set to
obtain an IP address automatically.
A new Edge terminal has a default IP address. This will need to be
changed to the IP address advised by your network planner.
For information on configuring an IP address, refer to
Edge Connection Problem Solutions
• If the DHCP server function has been turned off, but you know the IP address of the
terminal, use the TCP/IP connection option.
• If the DHCP server function has been turned off, and you
don’t know
the IP address
of the terminal, there are two options; a temporary connection can be established
using the IDUspe reset button, or auto detection can be used to discover the IP
address of the terminal:
• The reset button enables a temporary DHCP server connection, during which
time the IP address of the terminal can be discovered/changed, and/or the DHCP
server function turned on. Refer to
.
• Auto detection captures the IP address by broadcasting UDP discovery packets,
from which point a standard TCP/IP connection can be used. Refer to
Address Auto-Discovery Mechanism.
