Eclipse Edge User Manual
Test procedure
:
1. Set a BER test on a DAC trib with a remote loopback. Confirm error-free operation.
2. Check that the primary ODU (ODU1) is online Tx.
3. Withdraw the ODU1 cable from the IDUspe front panel to initiate a Tx switch to the
standby ODU (ODU2).
4. Confirm that service is restored within a count of one errored second (possibly
two). Refer to
Switch Operation Test Measurement for Edge on page 6
.
When an ODU cable is unplugged the relevant ODU front panel LED goes red,
and a critical alarm is raised. The IDU LED remains green. Note that in the
System Summary screen the Link module goes red, even though the standby
ODU is online, and is providing normal Tx and Rx link operation.
5. Re-install the ODU cable and confirm that no switch occurs; Tx online remains
with the secondary ODU.
6. Check that the ODU LED returns to green within 60 seconds and that the Portal
status for the link returns to green within 2 minutes.
7. Repeat the test by withdrawing the ODU cable for ODU2.
8. On completion of the tests ensure the remote loopback is disabled, or will time-out.
9. Check the System/Controls screen, and if necessary return to default online status
(primary ODU as Tx online), and if an unequal coupler is used, check that the
online Tx is connected to the low-loss side.
Silent Tx Switching Procedure
The procedure uses the Tx mute function to simulate a path failure.
Test procedure
:
1. Set a BER test on a DAC trib with a loopback at the remote terminal. Confirm
error-free operation and that the primary ODU (ODU1) is online Tx.
2. Go to the System/Controls screen and click Tx Mute for the primary ODU, then
click Send. This immediately mutes the Tx to simulate loss of signal to the remote
end. The remote terminal returns a local Tx switch command to force the standby
ODU to Tx online.
3. Confirm service is restored within 20 seconds (typically within 3 to 5 seconds). At
this point the secondary ODU is online Tx.
NOTE:
A variable guard time operates to prevent silent Tx switch
oscillation. When the guard memory is at zero, a switch typically
occurs within 3 seconds. If LOS remains, it switches again after a 5
second guard time. If LOS remains, switching continues but with a
doubling of the guard time on each successive switch, to a
maximum 320 seconds. When normal link operation is restored (no
further switch events), the guard time decrements in reverse time
order.
4. Remove the Tx Mute on the primary ODU, wait for normal link indications, and
apply to the secondary ODU, to return the primary ODU to online Tx.
5. Confirm service is restored within 20 seconds.
