SN9108 / SN9116 Installation
To set up your SN9108 / SN9116 installation, refer to the Installation Diagram
on page 31. The numbers in the diagram correspond to the numbers of the
instruction steps, below:
1. Use a grounding wire to ground the unit by connecting one end of the wire
to the Serial Console Server’s grounding terminal (located on the back
panel), and the other end of the wire to a suitable grounded object.
Note: Do not omit this step. Proper grounding helps to prevent damage to
the unit from surges or static electricity.
2. For each server or serial device with a DB9 connector, plug an RJ-45-to-
Serial adapter into its serial port. Use standard straight-through Ethernet
cable to connect any available port on the Serial Console Server’s rear
panel to the RJ-45-to-Serial adapter
Note: Additional adapters require a separate purchase. Please contact your
dealer.
3. For serial devices with RJ-45 connectors, use Ethernet rollover cable or a
special pin-out cable to connect any available port on the Serial Console
Server's rear panel to the serial RJ-45 port.
4. Plug the cable that connects the SN9108 / SN9116 to the network into the
LAN port, located on the unit’s rear panel.
5. (Optional)
a. Use Cat 5e cable to connect any available port on the SN9108 / SN9116
to an SA0150 adapter. Connect the adapter to the PON IN port of a
PN0108 Power Over the Net™ device. Then use OOB to specify the PON
port in the
PON Settings (see OOBC , page 108).
b. Use Cat 5e cable to connect any available port on the SN9108 / SN9116
to the PON IN port of a PN5xxx / PN7xxx Power Over the Net™ device.
Then use OOB to specify the PON port in the
PON Settings (see OOBC ,
page 108).
6. (Optional)
If you choose to install a serial modem for OOB operation (see OOBC ,
page 108), use standard Cat 5e cable to connect any available port on the
SN9108 / SN9116 to a DTE-to-DCE serial adapter (see
RJ-45 to Serial
Adapters , page 7 for details on choosing the appropriate adapter), then
