trum radio manufactured by Ashtech.    

Spread-spectrum radios have been known to function at  ranges much greater than 2 
km, but to do so requires clear line-of-sight between the base and rover systems.  Any 
obstructions will greatly reduce the range.  

The spread-spectrum radio used at the base system and the rover system are identi-
cal and interchangeable.  The spread-spectrum solution for the ZX SuperStation is 
manufactured by Ashtech and called the SSRadio.  The rover SSRadio has the option 
of being embedded into the rover receiver.  The base SSRadio must be external to the 
base receiver.

Radio Antenna

The base and rover radios cannot function without antennas.  The transmission and 
reception point of the radio signal is the antenna.  The base radio antenna is usually 
larger than the rover antenna radio since its task is to transmit the signal. Figure 2.7
