10. THE ARPEGGIATOR
10.1. What’s an arpeggiator?
‘Arpeggio’ is a musical term that basically means ‘the notes of a chord played one after the
other’. For example, if you play a C chord and then play its component notes C, E, and G
independently, you have played an arpeggio in the key of C.
You can play those three notes in any order and still have played an arpeggio in the key of
C.
An arpeggiator, then, is a form of music technology that will take a group of notes played
simultaneously on a keyboard and turn them into an arpeggio.
10.2. Arpeggiator features
The MiniBrute 2 arpeggiator provides lots of different ways to arpeggiate the notes you play
on the keyboard. The following features were covered in the " Shared Features [p.78] " chapter:
• Setting the rate [p.23] or tempo
• Time division [p.79] settings
• Swing [p.82] and gate [p.76] settings
• Skip encoder values ( Mode [p.84] and Time Div [p.84] )
• Restart arpeggio [p.84] from the first note
The following features have not been covered yet, so we’ll cover them in this chapter:
• The eight modes [p.100] that determine the note order
• Building an arpeggio of up to 16 notes [p.103]
• Pause an arpeggio [p.104] in mid-stream and then resume the pattern
• The Hold [p.99] function

