TAC
Type Approval Certificate -
Granted to a product that meets a
minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements.
TETHER
A cord or similar device that anchors something movable to a
stationary point or anchors two items together, such that they
cannot become separated beyond the length of the tether.
TRANSMISSION
Transmission identifies when the ELT is sending a radio signal on
one or more frequencies, which occurs after an ELT has been
activated, either manually or by G-switch.
TSO
Technical Standard Order
–
A TSO is a minimum performance
standard issued by the FAA for specified materials, parts, and
appliances used on civil aircraft.
UIN
Unique Identification Number
–
A numeric string that is associated
with a single entity within a given system.
USCG
United States Coast Guard - The coastal defense, search and
rescue, and maritime law enforcement branch of the United States
Armed Forces and one of the country's eight uniformed services.
UTC
Coordinated Universal Time
–
A time standard based on
International Atomic Time. UTC is the time system used in aviation
and is often associated with Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and/or
“Zulu” time.
UUT
Unit Under Test
–
The object that is being tested.
VHF
Very High Frequency
–
The 30 MHz to 300 MHz radio frequency
band.
VSWR
Voltage Standing Wave Ratio
–
The ratio of the amplitude of a
partial standing wave at an antinode (maximum) to the amplitude
at an adjacent node (minimum), in an electrical transmission line.
An ideal transmission line would have a VSWR of 1:1.
