4)
ON-state current (initial)
•
Activate the UUT.
•
The volt meter will drop voltage from 12.5 (+/- 0.5) VDC.
•
The ammeter will read < 45 mA.
•
Turn off UUT.
5)
ON-state current (ELT self-test)
CAUTION: This test will use the milliamp scale. Do not leave UUT on for more than 45
seconds. If 49 seconds is exceeded, a 406 MHZ burst will occur (2-3 amps)
that may damage the ammeter.
•
Set ammeter to the amps (A) scale and utilize the Max Hold setting. The 406 MHz
burst is momentary, so the ammeter must use Max Hold to measure accurately.
•
Place switch on “ARM” position and push ST button until LED flashes
(approximately 2 seconds). Current will be < 2 Amps.
•
If the ST button is pushed for more than 4 seconds, you will automatically go into
GNSS test. Current will be < 300 mA.
6)
ON-state current (406 LIVE burst and 121.5 MHz)
•
Set ammeter to the amps (A) scale and utilize the Max Hold setting. The 406 MHz
burst is momentary, so the ammeter must use Max Hold to measure accurately.
The 121.5 MHz transmission also starts after 50 seconds.
•
Activate UUT.
•
Monitor ammeter. At 50 seconds, the ELT 4000S will burst. Current must be < 300
mA.
NOTE:
The ON-state current for a live burst will be less than the current for the self-
test. This is normal operation. The standard will remain < 3 amps.
•
After 406 MHz burst, disable the ammeter Max Hold function. The 121.5 MHz
transmission will now be active.
•
Monitor the ammeter. The ON-state current will be <75 mA.
•
Turn off UUT before the next 406 MHz burst.
