Which method is best for me?
It is a good idea to establish what you need the Genius X2 to do before committing to a cellular
plan, if one has not been provided with the phone. It is also necessary to understand the
cellular network coverage in your area.
If all you need to do is make and receive phone calls without the NBN, most basic plans will
work.
If you want to connect other devices to the internet and use data on the SIM card, look for
plans that provide good data. If you have a mobile phone already, check the data usage for the
previous month. This will give a good idea as to (if the mobile was tethered to the Genius X2
Hotpsot), how much additional data to expect on the SIM card for the Genius X2.
If there is already an NBN connection, the Genius X2 can be used with or without a SIM card.
A VoIP account is required to provide a landline number. The maximum phone number
configuration for the Genius X2 is two VoIP accounts (i.e. two landline phone numbers for
internet phone calls) plus a SIM card inserted, providing a choice between landline and cellular
calls.
If a VoIP account and the SIM card are both used, it will be important to set the outbound
call type.
Menu – System Settings – Call Settings – General Settings – Default outgoing call type
VoIP Call or GSM call
Override the default setting by selecting the call type on the dialing screen, as a number is
dialed, by pressing the Menu key which will invoke the options for the call.
Emergency Calls
For an emergency call, in any configuration, dial 000 and press the OK button
twice. This will initiate the call regardless of the configuration.
Emergency calls can be made with or without a SIM card inserted.
There must be a mobile network in the area.
